Pattie Stiles Obituary

PATTIE STILES

Pattie Stiles went to be with her Lord on December 26, 2013. She was born Patricia Ruth Myers on September 3, 1922 in Los Angeles to Paul and Thelma Myers. Her father was later known as "First Mate Bob", the founder of the Haven of Rest Radio Ministry. Pattie attended Toland Way Elementary in Eagle Rock, CA, and graduated from Eagle Rock High School in 1940. She attended Southern California Bible College in Pasadena, CA. and it was there that she met the love of her life – Jack Stiles.

Jack and Pattie married September 13, 1942. During their engagement that summer, Pattie had worked at North American Aviation bucking rivets on the side panels of P51 fighter planes, but in due time she became a minister's wife when they moved with their first daughter, Nancy, to Prairie City, OR. to pastor a small Assembly of God Church. While there Pattie gave birth to their second child, Stephen. They returned to southern California in 1946 and Jack began pastoring at Stonehurst Chapel in the San Fernando Valley where their third child, Kathleen, was born the following year.

In 1952, Jack became the founding pastor of Osborne Neighborhood Church in Arleta, CA. and together they were a dynamic team at Osborne for 45 years, Pattie as Music/Choir Director as well as church organist. Over the years she produced a legacy of music directing numerous choirs and travelling groups, and arranging and producing music for the church that included everything from solos, duets, trios and quartets, to cantatas and seasonal musical productions that combined drama, art, and orchestra. Pattie did all this without any formal musical training. She was a natural.

In 2006, four years after Jack's passing, Pattie moved to Whidbey Island, WA. to be with her daughter and son-in-law, Mike and Kathie Rice, eventually moving to Rosario Assisted Living in Anacortes, WA where she hosted a weekly Bible study in her room, encouraged the residents, and finished strong bearing witness to God's love to everyone around her.

Devoted wife, beloved mother and grandmother, gifted choir director and music minister, talented artist, relentless prayer warrior, confidant, encourager, gracious, and classy are how Pattie will long be remembered and deeply loved by all who knew her .

She is survived by her three children: Nancy (Jack III) Tedford, Steve (Jean) Stiles, and Kathie (Michael) Rice; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Rosario Assisted Living for the seven years of loving care they provided for Mom.

A memorial service celebrating Pattie's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Osborne Neighborhood Church, 13501 Osborne St., Arleta, CA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to Osborne Neighborhood Church Missions Fund.

Thank you Stiles family for sharing your parents with us, the ONC Family!
Thank you Pattie and Jack for being living examples of love, joy, peace, patients, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. I have been blessed beyond measure by the influence you two made on my life and the lives of my children. Your faithfulness echos on.
Until we meet in glory.

Pattie was refreshingly earthy in her faith and bold in her convictions. She told us the truth as she saw it, and we loved her for it. She made us all stand a little taller, walk a little bolder, and sing a little louder. Pattie was a woman of God. I will miss her. May God bless her memory.

Very few people have had the impact on my life that Mrs. Stiles did, she was a steadfast example of faithfulness to God and family and I consider it an honor to have been in her life as a child growing up at Osborne. She will always be in my heart.

With love and prayers to the family (and extended "family").

It was a blessing to have grown up going to Osborne Neighborhood Church. Such wonderful, loving, fun people. A lot of fun memories. I'm so glad I sang in the choir and got to travel. I know my brothers Dana and Rod were blessed because they sang in the choir. Singing in the choir is probably the reason I have sung in other choirs. I have been singing in the community choir here in Pagosa Springs for about six years now. A lot of time and work and commitment go into being a director.
Thank you for your commitment to God and to the church and the people.Thank you for the gift of your time, talent and knowledge and all that you did for the choirs. That was huge, not mention everything else you did. =0)
You and the whole Stiles family have been a blessing to so many throughout the years.
I know you will be missed dearly but it is a time of rejoicing because you are with Jesus now and Jack and the ones you know that have gone on before. =0)
Loving Memories,
Manon Schjolin (Martinelli)

God Bless you Stiles family. May you feel God's presence and comfort at this time.

Didn't know your Mom or Dad Steve but I know you, and that says a lot about the quality of your parents. As you did, I loved my parents, so every day I try to honor them by living those traits I admired in them. I know you will do the same. God Bless!

Mrs. Stiles was one of the kindest and honest people I ever met. Patti and Pastor Jack were two of the most humble people I ever had the privilege to know. Always missed.

Pattie Stiles was probably THE MOST influential woman in my life. I sang in every choir she had ever since I was 9 yrs. old. I'm still in that choir at ONC. This is my 50th year there. She was my spiritual mom. She loved me through hard times in my life, encouraging me and praying for me. She was always an example to me of a godly woman. Her family made me feel like I was part of the family. I will miss her greatly. But I know how wonderful it must be for her to be with Jesus and her beloved Jack. I will always remember her. Thank you to her family for sharing her. Blessings to you all.
