Dearest Wetzel Family.
I used to live in Arrowhead, California. I now reside in El Paso, Texas. I was watching the news last night and saw that you had visited the Memorial for all those lost. Your family had left a message and when I saw your last name and "Lake Arrowhead, CA, I knew of that last name. Then, the memory of that tragic day in San Bernardino came to mind. I want to "Thank All of You" for coming here and paying your respects. God has given you the Courage and Strength to get through your own loss and has blessed you and your family with many blessings. I will Always remember your husband Michael and all of you in my thoughts and prayers. Michael may be gone physically but he is still around all of you spiritually. He would be very proud of you for what you did. It makes me realize that there is still Hope and Love and compassion in this world with People like you.
God Bless You all and keep you all safe.
Sincerely,
Debra R. Nagy

To the Wetzel Family,
Our hearts ache for your loss. We pray that time will lessen the pain you are feeling during this difficult time and the most joyous memories of Michael will always give you strength. He shines in each one of his beautiful kids as we see it in the family picture. As we read and watch stories about him, what an incredible person and he leaves behind an amazing legacy. He will be missed by everyone, especially his REHS (Registered Environmental Health Specialist) family. We pray with you from across the miles in northern CA, a fellow REHS(supervisor)and wife.

I used to be a Clerk III at Environmental Health and had the privilege of clerking for Mike. I am so torn up about what happened to him; he deserved so much better. He is truly the best guy I ever knew in so many ways. Just as a joke, he & I used to call each other the worst names we could think of (not cuss words, just juvenile-type stuff) to see who could top the other in terms of being gross. And we would laugh so hard. I know it's silly, but we had a lot of fun, and his memory is very special to me. I remember he always called his parents and went to their house for dinner. My heart breaks for his children, because I know what it's like to have a wonderful daddy that you love more than words can say. But I don't know what it's like to lose that daddy at such young ages, and I'm so sorry they have to live through that kind of pain. Most of all, I wish that we could help Mike, go get him, and put him back in his life where he wanted to be. He had dignity and he mattered so much. I will remember him for the rest of my life, and the world is a much sadder place because of his absence. You were a good friend, Mike Wetzel.
