Earl R. Behr

Earl R. Behr, 93, of Patterson Street, Tamaqua, died Friday at Hometown Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late George and Laura Thomas Behr.

Earl was the widower of Eleanor Yemm Behr, who died on April 27, 2012.

Earl was a 1938 graduate of Tamaqua High School and served in the Army during World War II in the 2nd Infantry Division with deployments in Eastern Europe.

Earl worked for 40 years in banking, retiring from Meridian Bank as vice president after managing a number of their regional offices.

A member of St. John United Church of Christ, Tamaqua, Earl served on the advisory board of the Tamaqua Salvation Army, was a member of the Tamaqua Area School Board for 20 years and the Tamaqua Library Board of Directors. Earl maintained membership in the Tamaqua Rotary, Tamaqua AMVETS and was a charter member of the Tamaqua Jaycees.

Earl was preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. Betty Guy.

He is survived by sons, Brad Behr and his wife, Sandra, Denver, Todd Behr and his wife, Ellen, Bethlehem, and Glenn Behr, Tamaqua; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 655 E. Broad St., Tamaqua. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday from E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 655 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, with the Rev. Kevin Duffy-Guy officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sky-View Memorial Park, Tamaqua.
