Edward A. Fanelli, a Manhattan resident for more than 60 years, world traveler, philanthropist and genuinely caring, loving person with true friends everywhere, died June 4 at the age of 89.
He was the son of the late John and Natalie Clarke Fanelli, Shenandoah.
A 1948 graduate of Villanova University, he interrupted studies in 1943 to join the Army
Air Corps as an meteorologist after training at Brown and Harvard Universities.
He joined USN reserves after Villanova University and served many years as an officer.
He was assistant treasurer at National Dairy Products (Kraft) and assistant secretary at GTE Corp., and in retirement, a host on Crystal Cruise Lines until the age of 80.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Guinan and husband, Lawrence; and a brother, Jack Fanelli.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Mary Fanelli, Shenando-ah; nephews, Jack Guinan (Dr. Maryanne) Ardmore, John Fanelli III (Diana), Washington, W.Va., and Mark Fanelli (Amy), Ashland; nieces, Mary Jude Zarkoski (David), Spring City, and Mimi Null (Kraig), Wynnewood; 14 great-nieces and nephews; and a great-great-nephew; his dear, close friends of many years, Michael Fanelli, Peter Tremblay, Jim Madden and his advocate/caregiver, Ken Snyder, all of whom have lovingly stood watch and cared for him in VNNYC Haven Hospice during his final days of life.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish, Bryn Mawr, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. A private burial will be held at a later date in Barnesville.
