Eugene G. Kistler

Eugene G. Kistler, 74, of Laureldale, died Saturday at Reading Hospital, West Reading, where he was a patient since March 26.

Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late George I. and Margaret F. Kenney Kistler.

He married Rosalie Romain Kistler on Feb. 27, 1965.

He proudly served his country as military police in the Army.

He was a senior operator for the former Western Electric/AT&T for 40 years, retiring in 2000.

Gene was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park, IBEW Local 1898 and Telephone Pioneers of America.

He enjoyed watching baseball, football and golf. He played semi-pro baseball in the coal regions in his younger days.

Gene was most notable for his handyman expertise, his love for golf, fishing and camping with his children and grandchildren.

He was the father of Regina R., wife of Thomas Angstadt, Washington, Utah, Natalie Kistler, Rimrock, Ariz., and Marlene R. Padilla, Reading; loving grandfather to seven grandchildren, Chad and Brynn Swavely, Brianna Buchert, and Adryana, Alex, Daniel and Angela Padilla. Also surviving are longtime friend, Nancy Frost; two brothers, Joseph Kistler, husband of Marion, Fanwood, N.J., and William Kistler, husband of Theresa, Chalfont; sister, Margaret, wife of Joseph Delpais, MaryD; and sister-in-law, Teresa Kistler, Lynnwood.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Charles and John.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Klee Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 1 E. Lancaster Ave., Shillington, with the Rev. E. Michael Camilli officiating. Interment will be in St. Bertha Catholic Cemetery, Tuscarora. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
