Joseph W. Carr, 71, of Quaker Meeting House Road, Catawissa, passed away on July 9 after finally succumbing to heart failure, which he had been living with for the last five years.
Born Jan. 16, 1943, in Pottsville, he was a son of Joseph F. and Helen D. Murphy Carr.
Joe was a 22-year veteran of the Washington, D.C., police force, a faithful husband, a present father and a man of faith. Clint Eastwood with a Bible, Joe would stop what he was doing to help anyone, anytime, anywhere and he would quite literally give you the shirt off his back.
He could usually be found on his farm, hunting or fishing or spending time with his family and church. People were drawn to him because he was the real deal in a world full of fakers and moneymakers. The world is a lesser place with his passing.
He is survived by his wife, the former Kathleen May, originally of Reading, and they had observed their 39th wedding anniversary on March 3. He also is survived by a son, Daniel P. Carr and his wife, Clare, Buckhorn; a daughter, Christina M. Smith and her husband, Michael, Bloomsburg; a grandchild, Bonnie Grace Carr; a brother, Jack Carr, Auburn; and six sisters, Joann McCann and her husband, James, Ringtown, Patricia Kelly and her husband, Patrick, Schyulkill Haven, Colleen Beltrami and her husband, Michael, Hazleton, Martina Chwastiak and her husband, Peter, Orwigsburg, Susan Mamett and her husband, Jeff, Catawissa, and Kathleen Deatrich and her husband, John, Palo Alto.
A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at Spirit Life Church, 1338 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, with Timothy Zimmerman, officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Visitation for friends will be held from noon until the time of the service Saturday at the church. Contributions in his memory may be made to Spirit Life Church, 1338 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, PA 17815. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Allen R. Horne Funeral Home, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa.
