Lucille E. Koch

Lucille E. Koch, 88, formerly of Conyngham, passed away Jan. 26 at Waterbridge Assisted Living Community, Pine Grove, where she had been a resident since September.

Born in Schuylkill Haven, March 21, 1925, she was a daughter of the late J. Franklin and Minnie Shappell Shollenberger. Lucille had previously resided in Conyngham for more than 40 years and Boonville, N.Y.

She was a 1943 graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School and a 1945 graduate of the Reading Business Institute, with a degree as a medical secretary. Following college, she had worked as a medical secretary for 10 years and later as a secretary for Christ Church United Church of Christ and Conyngham Borough.

Lucille was a member of Christ Church UCC, Conyngham. She served as a Sunday school teacher for many years; was a past member of the church Consistory having served two terms as president; was chair of the worship and music committee; and served on the Valley Interfaith Council.

She was a past member of the Conyngham Senior Citizens and served as a Cub Scout den mother. She received the CVCO Woman of the Year Award in 1988 and served on the pool committee and recreation board.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband, Richard, who passed away Jan. 6, 2004; a brother, Lamar; and sisters, Marie Davis and Altheda Sunday.

Surviving are three sons, Sterling and his wife, Mary, Schuylkill Haven, Lamar and his wife, Denise, Catawissa, and William and his wife, Karen, Greenville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Lindsey Clements and her husband, Marvin, Caitlin Koch, Rhiannon Wallace and her husband, Chris, and Charles Koch; two great-grandchildren, Anaya and Breanne; several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral was held Saturday morning at Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums. The Rev. Michael Lonergan, a friend of the family, officiated the service at the funeral home and also offered the final prayers of committal at the burial of her cremated remains in Conyngham Union Cemetery.
