Paul L. Lehman

Paul L. Lehman, 91, of Wayne Township, passed away Wednesday at ManorCare, Pottsville.

Born in Pine Grove Township, Feb. 18, 1922, he was a son of the late Harry and Eva Strausser Lehman.

Paul was a 1940 graduate of Pine Grove High School and received awards for 12 years of perfect attendance. After graduation, he worked at Lengel's Coal Hole in Ravine, then went to Sparrows Point in Maryland where he made tags to label parts of ships. He next worked at Indiantown Gap Military Reservation repairing guns that were returned.

Paul joined the Army and was a sergeant having served in World War II with Company A, 36th Truck BN. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal w/ 3 Bronze Stars and World War II Victory Medal.

After his service in the Army, he was employed at Alcoa Aluminum in Cressona, where he worked in the machine shop until he went to Penn State at Bunker Hill. When his father passed away, he left school and went back to Alcoa and worked in the machine office, where he was appointed foreman and held that position until he retired in 1975.

Paul next worked at Fullers in Allentown, in Bernville at the Machine Shop and last at the Reading Pipe Company as a foreman.

He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Friedensburg.

Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He would go out and set his traps before going to school in the morning.

He was a member of the Tulpehocken Rifle & Pistol Club and a member of Pine Grove Masonic Lodge 409 F&AM and had been the oldest living past master.

Paul was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell L. Lehman and Clifford R. Lehman.

Surviving are his wife, Dolores E. Wagner Lehman; a daughter, Jane, wife of Dean Koch, Pottsville; and a sister, Darleen Ricard, Aiken, S.C.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., with the Rev. Carl Shankweiler officiating. There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., with Masonic services to be held at 6 p.m. Interment will be in Hetzel's Cemetery, Pine Grove. The family would prefer, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Covenant Home Care, 1510 Route 61 South, Pottsville, PA 17901, in his memory.
