Raymond P. Schlegel, 74, of Tower City, departed this life peacefully Thursday, surrounded by his children, grandchildren and extended family.
Born in Dornsife, Jan. 13, 1940, he was a son of the late Carl and Elda Rebuck Schlegel.
He worked for Koppenhaver and Bush Coal companies before going on to provide decades of service for HB Alexander Construction.
Raymond, known by friends as "Check" was a member of Orwin Fire Company, Orwin Gun Club and the Laborers' Union No. 1180.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Carolyn Machamer Schlegel, in 2004; and a brother, Richard Schlegel.
He is survived by his sister, Linda Cormier, Leominster, Mass.; his children, Dane McSparron and his wife, Jeanette, Muir, Beverly Aukstakalnis and her husband, Frank, Ashley, Carla Zeigler, New Cumberland, and Mark Schlegel and his wife, Kelly, Tower City; five grandchildren, Julie Reitenbach, Angela Heim, Michael and Dane Aukstakalnis and Stephen Schlegel; three great-grandchildren, Trevor Reitenbach, Kristen and Austin Heim; and two nieces.
