Russell H. Gehrig

Russell H. Gehrig, 87, of Wyomissing, died Wednesday at Phoebe Berks Healthcare Center.

He was the husband of Pauline K. Kline Gehrig.

Born in Schuylkill Haven, he was a son of the late John R. and Hattie Knapp Gehrig.

He was a graduate of Girard College and Penn State University.

Russell was an Army corporal veteran during World War II. He served as a machine gunner and cannoneer in Luzon Island, New Guinea and Leyte Island, Philippines.

He was employed as an industrial engineer for Textile Machine Works for 20 years. Russell worked as the facilities planner for Willson Products. He finished his career as an associate real estate broker for Century 21, among others, for 20 years until his retirement.

A lifelong tennis player, he played for more than 30 years, and was ranked as high as No. 3 in Middle States, and was inducted into the Middle States Hall of Fame.

He was preceded in death by his brother, John R. Gehrig.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading. Interment will be in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Friends may call one hour before the service. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
