William E. Zacko, 86, of Pottsville, formerly of Schuylkill Haven, passed away peacefully Monday at Providence Place Retirement Community.
Born in Pottsville, Oct. 27, 1927, he was a son of the late Joseph C. and Ethel Steinheiser Zacko.
He was married for 58 years to Emily M. Knobloch Zacko, who passed away in May 2012.
A 1945 graduate of Pottsville High School, he served in the Navy after graduation and attended Penn State University
when he returned from the service.
He first worked in sales with his father at Zacko's Sporting Goods. He then joined Exxon Chemicals as a member of their sales team in the plastics film division. Upon his retirement from Exxon, he worked part-time for Boscov's department stores.
He was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church and a 54-year member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th degree.
Outside of family and work, he enjoyed drawing/painting, hunting, working on his own cars and playing the organ.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell F. Zacko and Joseph C. Zacko Jr.
Surviving are a daughter, Colleen A. Gerrior, wife of Douglas, Dacula, Ga.; son, Philip J. Zacko, Deltona, Fla.; granddaughter, Melissa D. Gerrior, Dacula; and brother, Dr. George B. Zacko, husband of Donna, Reston, Va.
Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton Funeral Home Inc., Orwigsburg. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Interment will take place at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
