Ernest Loy Moyer

Ernest Loy Moyer, 84, of RD Schuylkill Haven, died peacefully Friday at Lebanon Veteran's Hospital, Lebanon, Lebanon County.

He was born in Wayne Township, Oct. 26, 1928, a son of the late Theodore R. and Cora Loy Moyer.

He was the husband of Helen M. Frantz Moyer, to whom he was married 60 years.

He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Friedensburg, where he was a former church councilman.

He served in the Army in the Korean War.

He was self employed most of his life.

Ernie was a graduate of Cressona High School Class of 1946, attended Penn State for two years and was in the carpentry and building trade for more than 35 years. He was a State Certified Tradesman Instructor by exam ranked 23rd in the state in all trades in 1953. He worked for various contractors before forming and operating Ernest Moyer Contracting, was a partner in Ted Moyer and Sons Contracting and Blue Mountain Builders. He was a charter member of Schuylkill Builders Association. He was owner of Colonial Hills Apartments, Hayloft Apartments, Country Store Shopping Center and Country Store Market.

Ernie was past president and charter member of Wayne Township Lions Club, past master and 50-year member of Cressona Lodge 222 F&AM, life member of Schuylkill Haven American Legion and Marne Chapter 21 DAV, assisted with and organizing various civic groups in Wayne Township to improve phone service and garbage collection, a charter and life member and past financial secretary of Friedensburg Fire Company he helped form and build. He was also past president of Wayne Township school board, past member of Blue Mountain school board and former member of Wayne Township Planning and Zoning Board.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judith Ann; a sister, Irma Schwartz; and five brothers, Ted, John, Sterling, Earl and Kenneth.

Ernie is survived by a daughter, Cheryl L., wife of Richard Thomas, RD Schuylkill Haven; three grandchildren, Scott R. Thomas, Allentown, and girlfriend, Amanda Dabashinsky, Eric R. Thomas, Allentown, and Kate J. Thomas, RD Schuylkill Haven; three sisters, Joan Renninger, RD Schuylkill Haven, Jane Herring, RD Schuylkill Haven, and Barbara Yost, North Carolina; and a brother, Richard Moyer, RD Pine Grove.

A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Friedensburg, with the Rev. Carl Shankweiler officiating. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Friedensburg. At the family's request, memorial donations may be sent to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 86, Friedensburg, PA 17933. Interment will be private at convenience of the family. Ebling Stabingas Funeral Home, Cressona, and Riverside Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.
