Leon Hiester Eshelman

Leon Hiester Eshelman, 77, of 836 Chestnut St., Hegins, passed away Friday at home.

Born in Hegins, Nov. 27, 1935, he was a son of the late W. Eugene and Tillie Geist Eshelman.

He graduated from Hegins Township High School and Penn State University with a bachelor's degree in agriculture economics.

He served in the Army as head of the commissary at Fort Drum, N.Y.

He was a retired business owner, having operated Twin Valley Farmers Exchange for 54 years.

Leon was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Hegins, where he was a member of Friedens Fellowship Choir and served on various committees.

His favorite hobby was organizing Community Day to support Re-Creation's service with hospitalized veterans.

Surviving are his wife, Valeria Gable Eshelman, to whom he was married for 54 years; two daughters, Jennifer Eshelman Shaffer and her husband, Lee, Denver, and Pamela Eshelman Schwalm and her husband, Scott, Hegins; two sons, Glen Eshelman and his wife, Dr. Heather Thieme, York, and Gary Eshelman and his wife, Michelle, Hegins; nine grandchildren; a sister, Lois Graham and her husband, Kenneth, Hegins.

Private interment will be held in Fountain Community Cemetery. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Friedens UCC Church, P.O.
