Alfred W. Burkle, 83, of Pine Grove Township, passed away Feb. 7 at his residence.

Born Jan. 18, 1931, in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late John P. and Ella May Swan Burkle.

He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He was a baker at Boulevard Baking Co., Philadelphia, prior his retirement. After retirement, he worked at Anthony's Feed Mill, Strausstown, and Berger's Supermarket, Pine Grove.

Alfred was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove. He was also a member of Strausstown Rod and Gun Club. Al enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Klara K. Gruber Burkle; three sons, William F. Thesing and his wife, Helga, Willow Grove, Ronald T. Burkle and his wife, Valerie, Skippack, and Stephen A. Burkle and his wife, Linda, Pine Grove; daughter, Andrea K. Knoll and her husband, Randall, Pine Grove; seven grandchildren; two great-grandsons; brother, William C. Burkle, Demming, N.M.; nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, with the Rev. Richard Schoenleber officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, gift processing administrator, 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive, Triangle, VA 22172.
