Donald Charles Hildenbrand, 81, of Bel Air, Md., died Friday at home.

Born in North Dakota, he was a son of the late Charles and Christine Eissinger Hildenbrand and husband of the late Helen Martin Hildenbrand, who died in 2012.

Donald retired from the Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Donald was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

An avid gardener, he enjoyed building and repairing clocks, playing cards and telling jokes.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Hildenbrand.

He is survived by a daughter, Helen "Chris" Hand and her husband, the Rev. Harold Hand, Pottsville; grandchildren, Christopher Hand and his wife, Kristen, Abingdon, Md., and Jonathan Hand, Minersville; and a sister, Ida Hart, La Palma, Calif.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 201 Mount Royal Ave., Aberdeen, MD 21001. Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home, Aberdeen, Md., is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left for the family at
