Elva Mae Brokenshire, CRNA, 81, of Bensalem, and formerly of Mahanoy City, died Tuesday morning at Schuylkill Center.

Born in Mahanoy City, she was a daughter of the late George and Elva Tregea Brokenshire.

She was a 1954 graduate of Mahanoy City High School and graduated top in her class in 1958 from the Northeast Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia. She worked as a floor nurse at Northeast Hospital and was promoted to supervisor of the accident/dispensary department in 1960 where she worked for four years. In 1964, she entered schooling to become a nurse anesthetist. In 1966, she returned to Northeast Hospital and worked as a nurse anesthetist for the next 12 years, moving on to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Philadelphia where she worked for nine years, eventually working for and retiring from the Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia after nine years of service there. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mahanoy City.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were brothers, Walter, Gerald, George, John, Allen and Ralph Brokenshire.

Survivors include two brothers, Wilbur, Mahanoy City, and James and his wife, Nancy, Frackville; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and great-great-nieces and -nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral at 11 a.m. Friday from the First United Methodist Church, Fourth and Mahanoy Avenue, Mahanoy City, with the Rev. Susan Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery in Mahanoy Township. Friends may call beginning at 9:30 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church.
