Elwood "Woody" Harner, 87, of Cherry Street, Ashland, passed away Friday at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.

Born in Mount Carmel, April 4, 1927, he was a son of the late Robert and Bertha Crawford Harner.

He was a member of Christ Evangeical Congregational Church, Lavelle.

A Navy veteran, serving in World War II, he was a truck driver for McCormick & Branch Trucking for 40 years and later a school bus driver for North Schuylkill schools for 16 years until retirement.

He was a scoutmaster for Troop 48, Lavelle, for many years and a member of Lavelle Fire Company, Ashland VFW Post, the American Legion Post, Ashland, and the Ashland Fish & Game Association.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Victor, Henry, Raymond, Franklin, Donald and Arnold.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Wanda Wolfgang Harner; two daughters, Barbara, wife of Donald Hepler, and Janet, wife of Glenn Wolfgang, and son, Robert and his wife, Cathy Harner, all of Lavelle; sister, Verna Lapachinsky, Ashland; grandchildren, Jason, Jesse and Joshua Hepler, Brian and Kristen Wolfgang and Michelle Harner; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Gabriel Hepler; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Evangelical Congregational Church, Lavelle, with the Rev. Michael Eck officiating. Interment will be in Citizens Cemetery, Lavelle. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
