Etta McLean Obituary

June 26, 2012

Etta E.C. McLean, 95, of Pine Grove, went to rest in the arms of her Lord on Tuesday at Loris Extended Care, South Carolina.

Born in Lehighton, Oct. 3, 1916, she was a daughter of the late John and Etta Nothstein Sorber.

Etta was a gracious lady who always had a warm smile for everyone.

She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Pine Grove. She was an active participant in the community with the South Schuylkill Garden Club, Cressona Chapter 367 Order of the Eastern Star and Pine Grove Historical Society.

She had a ready laugh and enjoyed playing pinochle and dominoes. She loved nature and gardening and was especially fond of flowers and her flower garden. She loved birds and watching the squirrel's antics trying to get birdseed from the feeders.

Etta was a creative and talented lady who had her handcrafted Christmas tree shown in the paper in 1979. She was also known as the "Teddy Bear Lady" for her teddy bear collection.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. McLean; a son, Bob; and a brother, Clair.

Surviving are a daughter, Nancy, wife of Richard Yaun, Longs, S.C.; a grandson, Garret and his wife, Freda Kwon Yaun, Palo Alto, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Robin McLean, Westampton, N.J.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Pine Grove, with the Rev. Raymond Hurst and the Rev. Howard Souder officiating. Friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church, when the Eastern Star services will be held by the Cressona Chapter 367. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Lehighton. The family would prefer, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in her memory to St. Peter's UCC Memorial Fund, 277 S. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove, PA 17963. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, is in charge of arrangements.
