Evan D. Thomas, 85, passed away after a lengthy illness Monday at Hospice House of the VNA at St. Luke's University Hospital, Bethlehem, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Minersville, he resided in the Lawndale section of Philadelphia for 58 years.
He graduated from Minersville High School in 1946.
Evan was an Army veteran of the Korean war.
He worked as a steam fitter for Steamfitters Union Local 420, Philadelphia, for 38 years, retiring in 1990.
Evan was a Mason and a member of Frankford Lodge 292 F&AM.
He enjoyed woodworking. Evan was a Scoutmaster with Troop 294 for 10 years.
Evan was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Anna M. Gretsky Thomas, formerly of Heckscherville, in 1985.
Surviving are his children, Kenneth E. Thomas (Donna), Morgan P. Thomas (Donna) and Pamela Marrs (Trey); sister, Yvonne Dunham; and eight grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday with a Masonic service at 8:30 p.m. and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at John F. Fluehr and Sons Funeral Home, 3301-15 Cottman Ave., Philadelphia. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. and will be officiated by the Rev. Robert Gildersleeve. Interment will be in Lawnview Cemetery, Rockledge.
