Merlin M. Sandler, 76, of Lake Wynonah, passed away Wednesday at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Perryville, Miss., on Feb. 1, 1936, he was a son of the late Harry and Elsie Hornberger Sandler.

He was a graduate of Perryville High School, Class of 1954, and served in the Navy Reserves.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Summer Hill.

Merlin married his wife of 54 years, Georgia Mae Barber Sandler, on Nov. 15, 1958.

He was employed for 25 years at Kaiser Mirawal, Port Carbon, and later became the founder and CEO of San-Fab-Co. He was a charter member of the Wayne Township Lions Club and belonged to the Orwigsburg Masonic Lodge No. 138.

Merlin also served on the Board of Directors of Lake Wynonah Property Owners Association, church council and Schuylkill County Industrial Management Club.

He coached Blue Mountain midget football Cressona Tigers and Little League Cressona Cubs.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Sandler; and nephew, Michael Sandler.

In addition to his wife, Merlin is survived by six children, a son, Stephen P. Sandler and his wife, Sallie, Schuylkill Haven, a daughter, Jane M. Gordon and her husband, Thomas, Schuylkill Haven, a daughter, Mary Jo Moss and her husband, William, Orwigsburg, a son, Mark A. Sandler and his companion, Penny, Schuylkill Haven, a daughter, Beth A. Keer and her husband, Kenneth, Gambrills, Md., and a daughter, Joy L. Eldredge and her husband, James, Napa, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, Brendan and Stephanie Sandler, Julie L. Wisner and her husband, Nicholas, Jill Gordon and her fiance, Scott Stahl, Zoe, Maggie and Giselle Moss, Michael and Kirsten Sandler, Sydney, Carley and Kennedy Keer; great-grandchildren, Lillian, Evan and baby Wisner; sisters-in-law, Vera Sandler and Sharon Nigra; and aunts, Marie Sandler and Hazel Sandler.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Summer Hill with the Rev. Kathleen Ash-Flashner officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of service at the church. Inurnment will be held privately at Summer Hill Cemetery.
