John T. Saylor Jr., 70, of Minersville, passed away Saturday at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street.

Born in Schuylkill Haven, Feb. 29, 1944, he was a son of the late John T. Sr. and Frances Cartier Saylor.

He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Minersville.

Before retiring, John was employed by Lehigh Coal and Navigation Co.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Diane M. Curran Saylor, on Dec. 16, 2011, and a sister, Barbara Kalce.

Surviving are a son, Jared C. Saylor, husband of Christina, Pottsville; sisters, Anna Saylor, Pottsville, and Mary "Sue" Schaeffer, Llewellyn; grandchildren, Mason and Harper Saylor, and his canine companion, Kacy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Minersville, with the Rev. Adam C. Sedar officiating. Friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Mahal-Ritzel Funeral Home Inc., Minersville. There will not be any calling hours Wednesday evening. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in John's name to Hillside SPCA, P.O. Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901, and will be accepted at the funeral home during visitation. Mahal-Ritzel Funeral Home Inc.. Minersville, is entrusted with arrangements.
