Frances E. Carls Pitts, 86, of Girardville, passed away peacefully Monday at the Shenandoah Senior Living Community.

Born in Shenandoah, Jan. 20, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Otto and Ruth Parish Carls.

Frances was a 1946 graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah.

She was a retired garment worker, having worked in the local garment industry. She was a member of ILGWU.

She was also a member of the United Church of Christ, Shenandoah.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Charles A. "Scat" Pitts Jr., on April 17; and sister, Jean Schlemmer.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. Carl A. Pitts, Philadelphia, and Kurt Pitts and his wife, Elizabeth, Hometown; a daughter, Ruth Ann Withers and her husband, Wayne, Orwigsburg; three grandchildren, James Withers and Samantha and Travis Pitts; a sister, Ruth Straub, Shenandoah; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Prayer and scripture services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. The Rev. Janet L. Kline will officiate. Interment will follow in the United Protestant Cemetery, Girardville. Relatives and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
