Frances Shirley "Fran" Koch Oestreich, 84, a resident of Hopewell, Va., since 1955, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday.

Born in Lost Creek, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary Dunsten Koch.

She graduated from nursing school in 1951 as a registered nurse and retired from John Randolph Medical Center, Hopewell, Va., in 1991.

Fran loved to travel and was an avid reader. She spent many years volunteering her time. Over the years, she worked with the Methodist Youth Foundation and the Dana Tyson Circle with Wesley United Methodist Church, Girl Scouts, Jobs Daughters and Meals on Wheels.

In addition to her parents, Fran was preceded in death by her husband, Harry "Bud;" and brother, Donald Koch.

She is survived by her daughters, Debra A. Kelly (fiance, Jack Hughes) and Donna L. Bear (Chris); grandson, Aubrey J. Taylor (Debra); granddaughter, Karlah M. Taylor; and great-grandson, Devan C. Taylor, all of Hopewell, Va.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at J.T. Morriss & Son Hopewell Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to a local animal shelter or animal rescue group or to Wesley United Methodist Church, 2901 Norfolk St., Hopewell, VA 23860. Condolences may be registered at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home is in charges of arrangements.
