Clyde E. Schaeffer, 58, of Mahanoy City, died Sunday morning at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey.

Born at the former Locust Mountain Hospital, he was a son of Helen Jensolowsky Schaeffer, Mahanoy City, and the late Clyde L. Schaeffer.

He was a 1973 graduate of Mahanoy Area High School and had been employed by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, where he was an emergency response worker.

Clyde was a member of the Citizens Fire Company No. 2 and Mahanoy City EMS and was one of the first emergency medical technicians in Mahanoy City. Clyde was also a volunteer and speaker for Alanon.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are two daughters, Shannon Schaeffer and her companion, William Walsh, Frackville, and Melissa Schaeffer and her companion, Stephen Miersky, Shenandoah; three brothers, John and his companion, Lynette Kurtz, Easton, Gary and his wife, Ann, Gilberton, and Lee and his wife, Suzanne, Hazleton; a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Miersky; an uncle; nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial services at 11 a.m. Saturday at David D. Jarrett Funeral Home, Mahanoy City, with the Rev. Fred T. Crawford officiating. Interment will follow at the German Protestant Cemetery, Mahanoy Township. Friends may call and visit with the family beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Contributions in Clyde's name to the Citizens Fire Company No. 2 would be appreciated by the family and will be accepted at the visitation. Please visit for more information.
