Michael J. Brennan Sr., 65, of Pottsville, died Wednesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest, after fighting a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis.

Born Dec. 7, 1948, in Pottsville, he was a son of Julia I. Murphy Brennan, Minersville, and the late Edward M. Brennan.

A 1967 graduate of Pottsville Area High School, he served in the Army Reserve.

Michael was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville.

Prior to his illness, he was active in the Knights of Columbus and the Pottsville Jaycees. He coached the Pottsville Boys Basketball League and was an avid sports fan. He never missed any of his sons' sporting events and was proud of their accomplishments.

He was recently employed at the Schuylkill County Council for the Arts, Pottsville, and was previously employed at the former All Saints School, Pottsville.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are the love of his life and wife of 46 years, Judith A. Sirko Brennan, Pottsville; sons, Michael J. Brennan Jr. and his wife, Melissa, Orwigsburg, and Jarrad, Baltimore, Md.; granddaughters, Maggie Grace and Rhyan Elizabeth Brennan, Orwigsburg; sister, Sharon and her husband, Bob Piccioni, Pottsville; niece, Marina Refi, Pottsville; and nephews, Jeff and Tim Bartholemew, Harrisburg.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 to 9:30 Monday at Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 515 W. Market St., Pottsville. Interment will be held in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hillside. The family would prefer contributions be made in memory of Mike to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Central Pennsylvania Chapter, 717 Market St., No. 108, Lemoyne, PA 17043.
