Frederick H. Klaiss, 93, of Lavelle, passed away Thursday at home.

Born in Lavelle, Sept. 27, 1920, he was a son of the late William and Ascelia Buhl Klaiss.

He attended Lavelle schools and worked for many years in local coal mines and later at Alcoa Aluminum, Cressona, until retirement.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran, serving in World War II.

Frederick was a member of Lavelle AMVETS and Mount Carmel Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by a son, Edward, in 1970; and a brother, Warren.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Hinkel Klaiss, Lavelle; children, Martha, wife of Randy Appleman, Danville, Henry Klaiss, husband of Gail, Hampton, Va., Arthur Klaiss, husband of Evelyn, Pasadena, Md., Eloise, wife of Scott Riesle, and Frederick Klaiss, husband of Eleanor, both of Promise Land; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held from Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland, at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Joan Brown will officiate. Visit our website at
