Vernon L. Dierwechter, 94, of North Manheim Township, passed away Monday at Lehigh Valley Medical Center-Cedar Crest, Allentown.

Born in Schuylkill Haven, Aug. 25, 1919, he was a son of the late William and Florence Hummel Dierwechter.

Vernon was co-owner of Dierwechter Scrapyard.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlys H. "Nook" Mullins Dierwechter, Dec. 2, 2013; son, Gary Dierwechter; grandson, Mark Dierwechter; and siblings, Clarence and Glen Dierwechter and Nelda Ward.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Vernon is survived by two sons, Leon "Will" Dierwechter and wife, Pauline, North Manheim Township, and Dale B. Dierwechter and wife, Patricia, Hamburg; a daughter, Carol Wasser, Pottsville; daughter-in-law, Gloria Dierwechter, Orwigsburg; grandchildren, William, Richard, Joey, Jennifer and David Dierwechter and Darren and Bryon Wasser; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., Schuylkill Haven, officiated by Pastor Janet Lewis. A viewing will be held from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
