Alfred Waizenegger, 72, a former Ashland resident, passed away early Friday morning at Bob Fryer and Family Inpatient Center, Mount Joy, surrounded by his family.

Born in Centralia, Nov. 21, 1941, he was a son of the late Charles and Anna Herman Waizenegger.

He was a 1959 graduate of the former Conyngham Township High School, Aristes.

He was a veteran of the Army, having served as a radio mechanic in the 3rd brigade at Fort Jackson, S.C., attaining the rank of specialist-4.

After returning home, he was employed at the former Ashland Shoe Store and had a 25-year career with Sears-Lawn and Garden Department, Schuylkill Mall, and most recently at Sears-Park City Mall, Lancaster.

Al volunteered with the Ashland Little League and served on the board of directors for more than 20 years and was a member of the American Fire Company, Ashland.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Herman, in 1993.

Al is survived by his wife, Lorraine Fishburn Waizenegger, to whom he was married for 21 years; daughter, Samantha, wife of Jason Knorr, Val ley View; son, Clayton, husband of Bethany Evans, Charlottesville, Va.; grandchildren, Angel, Dakota, Hunter, Cayley, Carley and Caleb; and nieces, Judy Crawford and Ann Herman, both of Ashland.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, 1323 Centre St., Ashland, with the Rev. Bryan Dever, former pastor of Bethany Evangelical Church, Ashland, officiating. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hillside SPCA, P.O. Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901. Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, has charge of arrangements.
