William E. Roberts, 85, of 305 Virginia Lane, Den Mar Gardens, Kulpmont, passed away Friday at home after an illness of two years. Bill was taken care of by his wife of 28 years, Joan, and had a very good support system. Bill has been a resident of Den Mar Gardens since 1995.

Born in Shenandoah, Nov. 19, 1928, he was a son of the late William Sr. and Ruth Eckroat Roberts, the oldest of six children.

A graduate of West Mahanoy Township High School, he was employed as a manager for Acme Markets for 40 years.

He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1950-52.

On Feb. 14, 1985, he married the former Joan Mattis in St. Anthony Church, Ranshaw.

Bill was a member of Bethel Primitive Methodist Church, Shenandoah, and the Sunflower Travel Club.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting and going to the casino. He spent Sunday afternoons having a meal with his wife and friends, Sara Yoder, Jon Derrick, Gertrude White, Laura Templin, William Strausser, Helen and Bernie Pasierb, with games played after dinner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Gail Truskolasky and Geraldine Weyman; and brother, Ronald Roberts.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sister, Marilyn Pyle and her husband, Jim; brother, Warren Roberts and his wife, Mary; brother-in-law, Michael Mattis and his wife, Patricia; sisters-in-law, Ellen Mattis and Henrietta Mattis; brother-in-law, Ray Pultyniewicz, and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Church of the Holy Angels, 855 Scott St., Kulpmont, with the Rev. Andrew Stahmer officiating. Interment will take place in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. Viewing will be held from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday, with Transferal Prayers at 9 a.m. at C.J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 1053 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, C.J. Lucas, supervisor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bethel Primitive Methodist Church, 106 S.
