Mary Elizabeth Schival Pitcavage departed this life on July 22 after living with advanced Alzheimer's disease for the last several years.

Her memory is cherished by her husband of 54 years, Leonard E. Pitcavage; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna D. and Daniel Haley, and Gail A. and Edward Ponce; and grandsons, Kyle J. Haley, Kevin A. Haley, Alex E. Ponce and Hunter D. Ponce, all of Troutville, Va.
Mary Elizabeth was born in Philadelphia, Dec. 22, 1933, and was raised by her father, Joseph N. Schival Sr., and mother, Mary Shimony Schival, with her brother, Joseph N. Schival Jr., all deceased.
She married Leonard on April 23, 1960, and later moved to Claymont, Del.
Mary worked as a secretary at Concord Pike Library, taking time off to raise her girls, then worked up to criminal deputy of the prothonotary for the state of Delaware. She modeled a strong work ethic while balancing time to enjoy family and friends, visiting and celebrating many milestones throughout the years. She always made the Christmas holidays special and hosted many gatherings focused on family and special friends.
She was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Ladies Auxillary.
From the magic of Disney to the mysteries of Egypt's Tut, Mary Elizabeth shared her love of travel with her grandsons. They were the focus of her photography hobby and the joys of her life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, where friends may visit with the family from 10:30 until 11:45 a.m. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Del.
