John E. Kosoloski, 85, of Chambersburg, went to join his Lord and Savior on Monday.

Born July 28, 1929, in Bear Valley, he was a son of the late John and Stella Glowaski Kosoloski.

He married the former Catherine Cavacini on May 20, 1950.

John grew up in Mount Carmel, where he attended Mount Carmel High School. As a youth, he was in a band playing the accordion and played football.

John received his bachelor's degree from Bloomsburg University, his master's degree in education from Bucknell University, Lewisburg, and his doctorate degree from Penn State University. He began his career in education teaching chemistry at Williamstown High School.

He then became the assistant commissioner of planning with the PA Department of Education, and state director for educational administration. After retiring from the state, he worked as the director of Schuylkill County Drug and Alcohol Executive Commission. He retired in 1993.

John dedicated his life to God, family and education. Family parties, picnics and holidays were moments John treasured.

A parishioner of Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, he was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Chambersburg.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, and was a member of American Legion Post 46, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1599, AMVETS Post 224, the National Drug and Alcohol Counselors and the Heritage Foundation. He served on several boards, including Appalachia Commission Advisory Board, Presidents Advisory Board on Aerospace Foundation, the National Board on Child Development, PA Arts Foundation and PIAA Board of Control. Over the course of his professional life, John received various local, state and national awards for his work in education.

John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Catherine A. "Kitty" Cavacini Kosoloski and their two daughters, Christine, wife of Larry Mussoline, Reading, and April, wife of Larry Hoover, Chambersburg; three grandchildren, Katherine, wife of Michael Rohrbach, Palmyra, Maria Mussoline, Reading, and Anthony Hoover, Harrisburg.

A Mass of Celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Thiesz officiating. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg, with the Rev. Frank Karwacki officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to Corpus Christi Catholic School, 305 N. Second St., Chambersburg, PA 17201. Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home Ltd., Chambersburg, is in charge of arrangements.
