Joan M. Burns, 87, of Pottsville, died Friday at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.
Born in Pottsville, Nov. 8, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Maude McGolder Frank.
She was a graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School and Penn State University with a degree in education.
She was employed by Schuylkill County Child Development at the Duncott Day Care, prior to retiring.
Joan was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Burns, in 1975; a brother, Edward Frank; and a sister, Dot Ginther.
Surviving are four children, Claire Kasper and her husband, Pat, Williamstown, Joseph R. Burns and his wife, Helen, Pottsville, Mary Jane Burns, Pottsville, and Kathleen Pauly and her husband, Joseph, Pottsville; a brother, Jerry Frank, Pottsville; 11 beautiful grandchildren and 11 beautiful great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. Family and friends are invited to call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville. The family would prefer remembrances in form of contributions made to St. Patrick Memorial Fund, 319 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901.
