Eleanor M. Kutchoodon, 85, of Hendersonville, N.C., formerly of Minersville, passed away on March 20.

Born in Minersville, she was a daughter of the late Theodore and Kathryn Pelka Kutchoodon.

A 1949 graduate of Minersville High School, she continued her education at the former Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing. She took employment as a registered nurse at Philadelphia General Hospital and Hahnemann Hospital. She later attained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Northwestern State University of Louisiana and her Master of Science in Nursing at the Medical College of Georgia.

She took a commission in the Army Nurse Corps in 1966 and served 21 months in Vietnam. During her 20-year Army career, she was the recipient of multiple awards, including the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal – Korea. She retired as a lieutenant colonel.

A member of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Minersville, she was a current member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church of Arden, North Carolina.

Eleanor was preceded in death by three siblings, Michael Kochkodin, Clara Phillips and Mildred Hoffman.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

A dedicated health care professional, Eleanor donated her remains to medical research. A memorial service will be held at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday from Dutcavich Funeral Home, 200 Sunbury St., Minersville.
