Veronica "Roni" Vaupel, Auburn, passed away Tuesday at her residence from complications of Parkinson's disease with her family at her bedside. With her husband Ben's help, she was able to endure the disease for seven years with unmatched dignity and grace. To her, life was a gift that was to be lived in full measure, and with passion.
Born in Coal Township, Feb. 9, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Helen and Cornelius Angelo.
She was raised in Natalie, lived and worked in Philadelphia for seven years before marrying her husband. They celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on Dec. 23, 2012.
Roni was a devoted and loving wife, mother and Nonna. She was proud of her three sons and their wives, Warren and Rosa, Wayne and Sylvia, and Welles and Susan. Her six grandchildren were the light of her life, Nicolas, Hadrian, Andrew, Marcus, Andrea and Alexander.
Roni was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven.
She was an accomplished artist on canvas in oils, water colors and pencil, as well as natural and cut flower arrangement. She was a member of Allied Artists. One of her enjoyments was interior design, which always provided a welcoming home.
In 1979, Roni and her husband, created and operated a successful manufacturing business, employing 14 for more than 10 years. The company still operates in Berks County under different corporate ownership.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia; a sister, Bonita; and two brothers, Frank and Cornelius Angelo.
Surviving, in addition to her immediate family, are two brothers and their wives, George and Sandi Angelo, Williamsport, and Joseph and Fran Angelo, Marion Heights; a sister-in-law, Patricia Angelo, Catawissa.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., 25 E. Main St., Schuylkill Haven, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Ambrose Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roni's name to Parkinson's Support Group of Berks County, 204 Columbia Avenue, Reading, PA 19605.
