Lamar L. Schaeffer, 66, of 42 N. Crescent St., Tremont, passed away Sunday at his residence.

Born in Good Spring, Nov. 22, 1946, he was a son of the late Irvin and Elizabeth Saltzman Schaeffer.

He was a coal miner for Kocher Coal Co., Valley View, prior to his retirement.

He was of the Lutheran faith.

He had been active in the Tremont Little League Baseball organization and the Tremont Food Pantry.

Lamar enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death a brother, George Schaeffer.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn J. Carl Schaeffer, to whom he was married for 46 years; three sons, Lamar L. Schaeffer Jr. and his companion, Shirley Adams, Tremont, Stephen M. Schaeffer and his wife, Holly, Pine Grove, and Brian C. Schaeffer and his companion, Dorothy Krammes, Tremont; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Bender and her husband, Brian, Joliett, and Pamela D. Hindman and her husband, Mark, Tremont; nine grandchildren, Tyler, Josh, Jake, Joe, Emily, Ethan, Makenna, Kelly and Marissa; three brothers, William Schaeffer, Lykens, Robert Schaeffer, Hegins, and Thomas Schaeffer, Schuylkill Haven; nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, with the Rev. Richard Schoenleber officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. Condolences can be left for the family at www.buffingtonreed.com.
