Frank Yanosky, 75, of Pottsville, passed away Saturday evening at home.

Born in Minersville, he was a son of the late Frank and Anna Sumosky Janowski.

Frank was a graduate of Minersville High School, where he was recognized in football by being selected for the Sports Illustrated All School and All Star All State Team. He played football and attended the Citadel for two years before enrolling in Elon University where he was a "walk on" captain of the football team.

He was a veteran of the Marine Corps. While in the Marines, he played football where he was again a "walk on" captain and was one of only two non-commissioned officers on the team.

He was subsequently drafted by the New York Titans of the American Football League. The Titans later became the New York Jets.

He was a member of Yorkville Hose Company, Catholic War Veterans, Pottsville, and the Allen-Rogowicz Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.

He was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Jean Martin, in 2008; and a brother, Joseph.

Surviving are a son, Frank Jr. and his wife, Debbie, Pottsville; a daughter, Cheryl Sommers, Chambersburg; three grandchildren, Francis J. Yanosky and his wife, Ellen, Cumbola, Ann Louise Yanosky, Ashland, and Michael Steven Yanosky, Airman 1st Class, Air Force, Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Dorothy Long, Florida, and Florence Doyle, Minersville.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 541 Sunbury St., Minersville. Monsignor William Handges will officiate. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Mount Peace Cemetery, Minersville. The family would prefer remembrances of Frank in the form of contributions to , 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Contributions will be also be accepted at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Donald J. Butler Funeral Home, Minersville.
