Margaret "Peggy" Brecker, 58, of 1038 Walnut St., Ashland, passed away Saturday at Broad Mountain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Frackville.

Born in Ashland, Dec. 27, 1954, she was a daughter of the late Margaret Grady and Robert Brecker Sr.

Peg graduated from Notre Dame High School, East Stroudsburg, and the New York Foundling Hospital School for Nursing (Infant and Child Care), where she worked with disabled and mentally challenged children. Peggy also graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a master's degree.

After leaving New York City, she continued helping children with developmental disabilities for many years. She was last employed at Gaudenzia House, Fountain Springs, as the house manager until her illness.

She was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Ashland, and the ladies auxiliary of Ashland VFW Post 7654.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert T. Brecker Jr., in 1980.

Survivors include her two sisters, Karen, wife of James Penney, Bushkill, and Mary, wife of Michael Ravert, Saylorsburg; a brother, James, husband of Connie Brecker, Houston, Texas; her dog and best friend, Harry Potter; nieces and nephews

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Ashland, with the Rev. John W. Bambrick, pastor, as the celebrant. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the Mass at the church. Interment will be in the New St. Joseph Cemetery, Ashland. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dream Foundation, 1528 Chapala St., Suite 304, Santa Barbara, CA 93101, which made her dream come true Feb. 21, 2013, when she met Peter Townshend and Roger Daltrey of The Who. Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, has charge of arrangements.
