Kimberly Ann Schaeffer Alcaraz, 48, of Midlothian, Va., formerly of Pottsville, passed away peacefully Aug. 31 surrounded by her loved ones at Johnston-Willis Hospital.

Born in Pottsville, July 31, 1965, she was a daughter of Wade and Jane Gaul Schaeffer, Pottsville, and the loving wife of John Alcaraz, formerly of Shenandoah, for 25 years.

She was a 1983 graduate of Pottsville Area High School and a 1985 graduate of Schuylkill Business Institute.

She was last employed by Cardiothoracic Surgical Association, Richmond, Va., as a physicians surgery scheduler until March 2011.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Michael and Mary Gaul; paternal grandparents, Paul and Ruth Schaeffer; uncles, Michael "Mickey" Gaul, Paul, Robert and Gerald Schaeffer, and Clayton Bercher.

Surviving, in addition to her parents and husband, are a daughter, Alyssa, at home; two sisters, Renee Botek, wife of Clement, Deer Lake, and Colleen Stoyer, wife of William, Reading; mother and father-in-law, John and Lois Alcaraz, Shenandoah; brother-in-law, David Alcaraz, Pittston; sister-in-law, Loriann Alcaraz, Shenandoah; nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life service to be held in Virginia at a later date. At the family's request, donations may be made in Kim's memory to the , P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058 or , P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265.
