Joseph J. Schneider Sr., 74, of Gilberton, died Thursday evening at his residence.
Born in Philadelphia, Jan. 9, 1933, he was a son of the late Joseph J. Schneider Sr. and Catherine McClaughlin Lotridge. He graduated from Stetson High School, Philadelphia.
He worked for the ABC Express and Mack Transportation for more than 30 years as a truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 107.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mahanoy City.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Geraldine Landis Schneider, in 1998; a daughter, Laverne Cahill, in 1975.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph J. Schneider Jr., Frackville, and David Schneider, Philadelphia; five daughters, Kathy and her husband, James Dambrosia, Gilberton, with whom he resided, Debbie Diviny, Philadelphia, Joanne Schneider, Mahanoy Plane, Geraldine Donatelli, Philadelphia, and Jeanette Roos, Fairless Hills; two sisters and one brother; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mahanoy City, with Monsignor Anthony F. Wassel officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph's Memorial Fund, 614 W. Mahanoy Ave., Mahanoy City, PA 17948. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Albert L. Gricoski Funeral Home, Frackville, is in charge of arrangements.
