Mary Alice (née Holman) Koehler(1947 - 2018)

Mary Alice Koehler (née Holman) of Smyrna, Delaware, died peacefully in her sleep while under the care of Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, Delaware on March 30th, 2018 at the age of 70.

Mary is survived by her husband; Larry, and daughter Michelle Bearstop (Marti) of Capitol Heights, MD; her father Riley J. Holman (Juana with 7 half brothers and sisters) of Santo Tomas MX; sisters Esther Howell (Ken) of Middletown, DE, Sandra Foshay(Bill Kelly) of Oklahoma City, OK, and Judith Thomas(Mike) of Elkton, MD; Half brother and sister; Bruce Holman (Jeanine) of Smyrna, DE, Janice Rash (Robert) of Coal City, WV; Step sister and step brother, Margaret Coalson (Roy), of Cool Ridge, WV, and Ted Hermanns(Zeta) of North East, MD. She is preceded in death by her mother. Margaret Obrien of Augusta, GA; her brother Riley (Bud) Holman(Roseann) of Kenton,DE; step brother David Holman of Chesapeake City, MD; Sister Brenda Holman of Elkton MD; step sister Florence Seither(Lenny)of Chesapeake City, MD, and her beloved son, Richard (Ricky) H.Hatcher III of Norfolk, VA.

Mary was born on June 3rd, 1947 in West Grove, Pennsylvania. Marrying immediately after High School, she followed her husband's career as the spouse of a United States Navy Sailor and finally settled in Norfolk, Virginia. After raising her two children, Mary decided to pursue a career in interior design and quickly established herself as a leader in the field. A desire to reestablish her roots with family, led to the decision to move and eventually relocate to Smyrna, DE, to open a shop specializing in antiques and giftware.

Mary was accomplished at understanding the needs of clients and often worked tirelessly to give them the "most bang for the buck!". She was a kind/gentle hearted individual who loved people and the relationships she established with them over the years and who was passionate about gardening and sewing. Over the years, she had been active in many local civic groups including Duck Creek Gardeners, Smyrna Downtown Renaissance Association, Smyrna Opera House, The Friends of Belmont Hall and Helping Hands Quilt Guild and often volunteered her time to decorate for events throughout the year.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Smyrna Opera House, 7 W. South Street, Smyrna, DE at 1pm on the 14th of April 2018. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mary's life. The family would like to thank Delaware Hospice and the staff at Kent General Hospital Cancer Center for their efforts.
