Benjamin Earl "Mr. Ben" Jones Obituary
Benjamin E. "Mr. Ben" Jones of Smyrna, DE, died quietly at his home on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was 98 years old.

Mr. Jones was born in Millington, MD, the son of the late George B. and Sarah Duling Jones. Mr. Jones had a long career with the Pennsylvania Railroad, working as a fireman, and engineer. But for many of his working years, "Mr. Ben" was probably known more for his painting and home building expertise. As a self-proclaimed part-time builder, he managed to construct 18 homes which continue to be wonderful structures.

After high school, Mr. Jones entered the United States Army and served proudly in Europe during World War II where he received the Bronze Star for Heroic service as well as several other service ribbons issued during the war. Mr. Jones was also a 70-plus year member of Chester Masonic Lodge 115, AF&AM, Chestertown, MD; VFW Post 652, Millington, MD, and American Legion Department of Maryland Post 0297. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Millington, MD, and the Marshallton United Methodist Church, Marshallton, DE.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones is also predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Joanna Seamans, and his second wife Kathryn Murray, brothers Charles Jones and George B. Jones Jr., and Albert VanSant, William VanSant, Edward VanSant and Ellen Spence who also predecease him.

He is survived by a son, Howard Ronald Jones of Smyrna, DE; daughters, Ruth Ann Bentley and Edna Mae Boutwell both of Smyrna, DE, and Hope Morton, of Gettysburg, PA; nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren also survive him.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017 at 12 noon in the Fellows Family Funeral Home, 370 Cypress St., Millington, MD, where friends and family may call one hour prior. Friends and family are also invited to visit with the family at the funeral home Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017 from 6-8 p.m., where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Millington-Asbury Cemetery.
