Joan Mae Bennett Obituary
Joan Mae Bennett, age 73, of Milford, DE passed away peacefully on October 24, 2016.
She was born in Wilmington, DE, the daughter of the late James "Jumbo" and Sarah Wilson.
Joan was a loving homemaker and enjoyed staying active, working part-time and seasonal positions through the years. Some of her employers included Woolworths, WalMart, Sussex Company, transferring cars for I.G. Burton Co. and most recently, Royal Farms.
She enjoyed caring and doing for others and lovingly provided care for her parents and mother-in-law in their later years. She always had time for tea, be it hot or cold, when family and friends would stop in for a visit. Other enjoyments included gardening and canning, participating in charitable functions including the Annual Little League Flower Sale and gathering donations for The Purple Heart Foundation. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James D. Bennett Sr.; her sister, Margaret Hutchins; and her brother, John Walls.
She is survived by four sons, James Jr. and his wife Terry of Milford, Ted of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Craig and his wife Kasia of Townsend, DE and Mike of Milford; seven grandchildren, two great-granddaughters; two sisters, Saundra Armenia and Norma Hutchins; several extended family members; and her dog, Sugar Babe.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside services will begin at 2 p.m. at Barratts Chapel Cemetery, located at 6362 Bay Road, Frederica, DE.
