Thomas "Tom" Spencer Sr. Obituary
Thomas Spencer Sr.m "Tom," 74, of Clayton, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Monday, July 3, 2017.

Mr. Spencer was born March 25, 1943 in Clayton, the son of the late Charles and Grace Spencer.

Tom was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 126 of Wilmington. Earlier in his career, he worked at Rothwells Garage and Leeds Travel Wear of Smyrna.

He was an active member of Trinity Wesleyan Church of Dover, where he served on the board for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and camping with his family. Tom enjoyed singing the hymns at church and made a great duet singing with his beloved wife, Jan. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed teasing people in a loving way. Even during the most solemn of times, Tom's teasing and sense of humor would brighten anyone's day.

Tom was a very loving and generous husband, father and friend and will be dearly missed by all.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings; and his in-laws, who he thought of as his second parents, LeRoy and Irene Legar.

He is survived by his beloved wife Janet I. Spencer, "Jan"; his daughters, Beth Lavender (Randy) of Tampa, Fla. and Jody Davis (David) of Ft. Worth, Tex.; his sons, Tom Spencer Jr. of Clayton, Richard Spencer Sr. (Liz) of Clayton, Brian Spencer (Lisa) of Carleton, Mich. and Jeff Thew of Missoula, Mont.; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Harry and Eddie Spencer, George and Troy Woodall and Grace Ann Fuhr; and several extended family members, including Jacob Byler, who Tom considered as family.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Trinity Wesleyan Church, Dover. Burial followed at Delaney's Church Cemetery in Clayton.
