Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 24, 2014 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Austin "Doc" Harren, age 83, who died Monday at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center.
Relatives and friends may gather with the family following the services in the St. Boniface Parish Center for a celebration of Doc's life. Military honors will be rendered by the Cold Spring American Legion Post #455. Arrangements with Wenner Funeral Home, Cold Spring.
Doc was born in Albany to Henry and Mary "Krier" Harren. He married Mary Overman at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport on September 6, 1952. Doc graduated from Albany High School in 1948 and served in the Korean War from 1951-1954. Growing up he worked with his family at the family owned newspaper, the Albany Enterprise. Doc was with Sentinal Printing for 29 years. He enjoyed playing cards; especially cribbage, singing, fishing, bowling, and hunting.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Mary; children, Sheryl (Frank) Stewart, Tom "Blue" (Deb) Harren, Mary (Dave) Neisen, Jean (Mike) Birk, Greg (Sue) Harren, Joe (Ann) Harren, Karla Odell; sister, Bernie Kuefler; sister-in-law, Kay (Henry) Harren; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Art, George, Theresa, Vicki, Al, Luke, Estelle, Henry, Nick, David; son-in-law, John Odell on November 3, 2013.
A special thank you to St. Cloud Hospital Hospice Program and the VA Hospice Program for the wonderful care given to Doc.
Memorials preferred to St. Boniface Grade School or Cold Spring Veterans Park.

With Doc, there was never a problem. It was simply a situation that needed a solution.

One of the best uncles you could ask for. Always positive and so funny. Loved to hear him and Mary sing!! Really will miss him.
