Joseph J. Johnston, 87

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Joseph J. Johnston, age 87, who died Tuesday, peacefully with family by his side. Burial will be in the St. Boniface Parish Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 11th at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring. Parish Prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m., Saturday morning at the funeral home.
Joe was born in Eden Lake Township to Alfred and Florentine (Vetsch) Johnston. Joe served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and married Vivian O'Brien on January 17, 1948 in St. Paul. He was a volunteer fireman in Woodbury for 25 years and worked as a truck driver for the St. Paul Pioneer Press. After retirement Joe and Vivian moved to Cold Spring. He loved fishing, family, dancing, playing cards, and trying to get a rise out of others. He was a member of Cold Spring American Legion, Catholic United Financial, and St. Boniface Parish.
Survivors include his children, Suzanne (Terry), Marcia, Stephen (Linda), Cheryl (Randy), Patricia (Scott), Jolene, Lori (Ed); sister, Dolores (Jack) Bell; 14 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren, and many more relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by wife, Vivian; brothers, Clarence, Ambrose, Bill, Francis, Clem, Gerald, Virgil, and Robert; sisters, Leona Schloesser, Cecelia Schiff, Vera Phillips, and Rosemary Lorenz.
The family would like to express their gratitude and heartfelt appreciation for the excellent care Joe received from St. Croix Hospice and the Assumption Community.

What good memories I have of Uncle Joe. He was always so cheerful and always had a smile on his face. He would take the time to come visit with us when we were in a big gathering. I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the funeral.
