Viola R. "Vi" Berns, 106 Melrose Apr. 28, 1910 - Sept. 24, 2016 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport for Viola Berns who passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Melrose, Minnesota. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Viola Rose Winter was born April 28, 1910 in Melrose, Minnesota to Mathias and Helen (Ostendorf) Winter. She married Henry Berns on November 11, 1930 at St. Boniface Church in Melrose. Vi enjoyed cooking, baking, and music. She was a piano teacher for many years in Melrose and played organ at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Vi was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her grandsons, Paul Nett of Albany, Mick Nett of Avon, and David (Gail) Nett of Sartell; and great-grandchildren, Marcus and Brooke Nett. Vi was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Berns on October 23, 1982; parents; daughter, Sharon Nett; brothers, Ernest, Warren, and Bernard Winter; and sister Virginia Fluegel. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Bettendorf, Jean*  
Jean Bettendorf, 64 Rice Sauk Rapids October 13, 1951-September 26, 2016 Jean Bettendorf passed away at home surrounded by family, ending a courageous two year war with ovarian cancer. At Jean's request, a private service will be held with her loving family. A celebration of life open house for family and friends will be held at the Lakeview Center at Benton Beach Rice, MN (the location of Jean & Bill's first date) on Saturday, Oct.15th. 2:00-6:00, commemorating her 65th birthday. Jean was born in Minneapolis to Burnett (Burt) and Esther (Kampmeier) Hollen. She attended Minneapolis schools until 12th grade when she transferred to Tech High School, class of '69. She received her B.S. degree in Art Education from St. Cloud State University and taught Art at Foley Intermediate School for 20 years. She had a passion for creativity and impacted countless young people with her enthusiasm for art. Jean met her husband, Bill, in 1969 and they've been together ever since, married in 1973. Jean adored her family, time with her kids and grandchildren took precedence over anything else. In her teaching days, her students joked that if you could get her to start talking about her kids, they could avoid assignments for the day! Jean loved to travel, taking numerous trips worldwide and wintering in Ft. Myers, Florida the past 10 years. She loved camping, biking, motor-homing, cruising on the river, live music and festivals. She enjoyed volunteering at the Paramount Art Gallery and with RSVP. She also loved shopping for unique and creative items. She had a vibrant, "forever young" attitude, always in the pursuit of fun and could make a friend anywhere. Jean is survived by her husband, Bill, Rice. Her son Cassidy (Renee) Boyceville, WI. Her daughter, Courtney (John) Standish, St. Paul, her three grandchildren, Zander Standish, Forest and Arlo Bettendorf, and her sister, Gayle (Nelson) Henderson, Springfield, VA. Memorials are preferred in Jean's name to Paramount Center for the Arts or the Coborn Cancer Center.

Bouressa, Allen*  
Allen Keith Bouressa, 70 St. Cloud Morris April 30, 1946-September 23, 2016 Al passed away 9-23-16 at home. Born 4-30-46 in Morris MN to Blanchard and Helen (Smith) Bouressa of Donnelly MN graduated 65 from Morris High School. He moved to St. Cloud MN in 68 was married and had 2 children and 3 grand-daughters. He worked for Robel Meat Packing from 68-88, American Linen from 89-93, and he drove semi until he retired at age 60. He enjoyed many things fishing, golfing, softball, volleyball, badminton, camping, cards, pool, and gardening! Survivors include sister Cheryl (Renee) Thompson; daughter Tamra Bergstedt; son Thomas Bouressa; granddaughters Kasi Bergstedt, Bri Bergstedt and Cali Zimpel; nieces and nephews, and good friends including those at the Whitney Senior Center in his Pool Club. Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers Herbert, Gerald, Hollis, and Dennis; sister, Janet Shaub; nephew Tim; and great nephew Brayden. Service held October 3rd, 2016, 12 noon at Atonement Lutheran Church, St Cloud. Visitation 1 hour prior to service, memorials sent 1 hour prior to service only. May God bless Al's memory!
