Anderson, Frederick Daniel (Fred)*  
Frederick (Fred) Daniel Anderson, 65 St. Cloud Frederick (Fred) Daniel Anderson, age 65 of St. Cloud, MN passed away Wednesday, January 28th, 2015 at the St. Cloud VA medical facility. He was the son of Andrew and Lorraine (Hamari) Anderson and grew up in East Bethel, MN. Fred served as a member of the US Army, serving mostly in European countries for four years. After his military service, Fred worked as a teacher, insurance agent, and at the St. Cloud DAV. Fred was well known for his love of helping our country's veterans at the St. Cloud VA facility, serving there as a volunteer in many capacities. He was also an avid fisherman who enjoyed sharing his fishing techniques with others. Fred will always be remembered for his humorous true life stories. He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew. He is survived by his mother, Lorraine, of Cokato. Children: Michael (Pat) of Bangkok, Thailand; Chad (Breanne) of Brooklyn Park, MN; Brandon (Angie) of Savage, MN; Andrea of Austin, TX; Joanna (Chris) Ehresman of Plymouth, MN. Grandchildren: Nina Anderson; Kieran, Cooper, and Jocelyn Anderson; Tristan and Charlotte Anderson; and Eli Ehresman. Brothers: Les of Portland, OR; David (Sylvia) of Virginia, MN; Robert (Ruth) of Cokato, MN. Sisters:  Karen (Tom) Aho of Cokato, MN and Barbara (John) Lehto of Cokato, MN. Fred is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Fred was a life-long member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Dassel, MN at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 31, 2015 with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Applegate, Dwain William*  
Dwain William Applegate, 97 Princeton May 6, 1917-January 20, 2015 Dwain William Applegate, of Princeton, MN, died on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at the age of 97, at the Elim Care Center in Princeton. Dwain was born on May 6, 1917 to Willard and Tina (Shrode) Applegate. He graduated from Princeton High School, where he was a star football player. Dwain's early jobs included hoeing potatoes on a peat bog, and cutting ice from the frozen Rum River and delivering it to homes for iceboxes. Dwain studied to be an electrician at Dunwoody Institute, but with war raging chose to serve his country in the Army. He was assigned as a Military Police (MP) escort for troops on trains. While on leave from the Army, Dwain met a teacher named Irvamae Vincent, and on April 13 of 1944, the two were married. Later in her career, Irvamae held the honor of becoming dean of the Division of Education at St. Cloud State College (the first woman dean of a school of education at a comprehensive college or university in the country). She also served as president of both the Minnesota and National Education Associations. Dwain and Irvamae established the Irvamae Applegate Memorial Endowment Scholarship Fund at St. Cloud State University. Dwain was employed by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety from 1958 until he retired in 1975. On June 27, 1978, Dwain was joined in holy matrimony to Lucille Bates. Dwain was a member of the United Methodist Church. He held life memberships in the VFW and American Legion, the Zuhrah Shrine Temple, Masonic Fraternal Lodge No. 92, the Royal Arch Masons No. 10 and Nazarene Commandery, No. 24. Dwain is survived by many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Irvamae and his wife Lucille, and by brother Roy and sisters Leona Starkey and Vera (infant). Funeral and interment were on January 24, 2015, at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Princeton.
