Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in St. Joseph for Alvina Mary Meier, age 94, of St. Joseph who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 4-9 p.m. on Friday and after 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Joseph. Parish Prayers will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Alvina was born July 3, 1916 in Albany, MN to George and Theresa (Buchholz) Berscheid. She married Peter J. Meier on October 29, 1940. They farmed in the Albany area and moved to St. Joseph in 1962. She will be remembered for her love of family, cooking, baking and her "skill" at playing cards.
Alvina is survived by her children LuAnn Weyer of Albany, Marilyn Schindler of St. Joseph and Jane (Ron) Scegura of Avon and Ronald (Cheryl) Meier of Deer Park, WI, 23 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and sisters Hildegarde Nelson of Milaca and Barbara (Werner) Breth of Albany.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Peter (1976), twin sons Richard (1984) and Robert (2001), son-in-law Eugene Schindler (1998), great grandson Christopher Johnson (1986), and brothers Raymond and Elmer Berscheid.
