Bruce W Ellis, 73
Brooklyn Park MN
St. Cloud MN
6/15/1939 - 4/8/2013
BRUCE ELLIS, on April 8, 2013, in his 73rd year, at his home in Brooklyn Park, Minn., after a valiant struggle. He spent his last days and died surrounded by his family.
He was born in Jamestown, N. D. on June 15, 1939, the son of Harold A. and Mary Cole Ellis. After attending public school in Jamestown, he enrolled at Jamestown College, earning his B.A. there in 1961. He went on to obtain an M.A. in Physics from the University of North Dakota (1963), and finally a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota
(1973). He joined the faculty of St. Cloud State University in 1964 as a professor of Physics; he served as Department Chair for many years and played a pivotal role in the establishment of SCSU's Electrical Engineering Program, in which discipline he was also a professor. He retired from SCSU in 2000.
Bruce and his wife Kathleen Ann Monroe were married in St. Cloud on June 12, 1965, making their home there with their children Heather and Stuart.
He was a man of wide-ranging interests: he and Kathy were enthusiastic travelers and biked through numerous countries in Europe; an inveterate reader, he was also a licensed ham radio operator and developed contacts with other operators all over the world. A much-loved lake place provided him and his family a refuge from life's pressures.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and sister Carol; he is survived by his wife Kathy, daughter Heather, son Stuart, daughter-in-law Jennifer, and grandchildren Caroline, David, and Jonathan, along with many, many friends. His departure leaves a void that can never be filled.
