Funeral Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph, MN, for Cecilia Mary Harris age 83 of St. Joseph, MN. She died at the Country Manor Apartments in Sartell, MN on Friday, July 20, 2012. The Reverend Jerome Tupa, OSB will be the celebrant. The interment will be in the St. Joseph's Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday (TODAY), July 23, 2012 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Joseph, and from 8:30 A.M. to 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home. St. Joseph Parish Prayers will be on Monday at 5:30 P.M. at Daniel Funeral Home.
Cecilia was born on December 29, 1928 on a farm near Richmond, MN, the daughter of John and Helen (Schlangen) Stang, and was the seventh of nine children. She grew up on the family farm and attended a country school near Richmond. As a young lady she worked at the St. Cloud Hospital, the Richmond Hospital, for Dr. Ernst DDS, and as a seamstress in St. Cloud and St. Paul, MN.
She was united in marriage to James O. Harris on January 18, 1958 at St. Mary's Cathedral Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Six children were born into this family. The family lived in Richmond for ten years before moving to Hastings, MN. Cecilia and Jim moved to St. Joseph in 1998. Jim died on December 22, 2005 and Cecilia continued to make her home in St. Joseph. In June of 2011 she became a resident of the Country Manor Senior Apartments in Sartell.
Cecilia was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in St. Joseph, MN and participated in the church prayer calling network. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, baking, gardening, canning and crafting. She lovingly enjoyed spending time with her nine grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Anita Harris, St. Joseph, MN, Benno Harris (Lau ra) Gilbert, AZ, Eileen Ottney (Paul), Frederic, WI, Karen Harris (Mike Barron), Hastings, MN, Mary Shepherd, Hastings, MN, Joseph "JD" Harris (Christina), Wyoming, MN; her grandchildren, Ashley, Adam, Christiane, Benjamin, Alec, Morgan, Sam, Mara, and Ethan; brother and sister, Cora Obermiller, and Arnold Stang.
She was preceded in death by her parents: her husband; two son-in-laws, George Walz and Frank Allen; sisters and brothers, Martha Hieserich, Sr. Colette, OSB, Sr. Brigetta, OSB, Herbert Stang, Theresa Schaefer and Clarence Stang.
